Segun el faq es un fork del projecto, lo que pasa es que es un fork raro. Todos los desarrolladores se dedicaran a wireshark y pasaran de ethereal.

#2 Lo peor que puede pasar es que deje de ser GPL.

Bueno, eso tampoco es necesariamente malo. Pero bueno mejor no tocar ese tema a ver si me comerán los leones.
