Segun el faq es un fork del projecto, lo que pasa es que es un fork raro. Todos los desarrolladores se dedicaran a wireshark y pasaran de ethereal.

Por lo que dice la infor., más bien parece como si www.cacetech.com/ se hubiera hecho con ethereal, de ahí el cambio de nombre.
