En el medio de Manhattan encontramos un diminuto cementerio con la siguiente inscripción "The Second Cemetery of the Spanish & Portuguese Synagogue of the Congregation Shearith Israel" el cementerio data de 1805 y la congregación de judíos sefardíes de 1654, siendo la primera comunidad judía en América del Norte.
