La guerra en Iraq se ha cobrado un alto precio en los niños, muchos de los cuales vieron a sus propios familiares secuestrados, torturados y ejecutados. En el Iraq ocupado, donde se estiman de entre 4 a 6 millones de huérfanos (para una población total inferior a los 30 millones), hay muy pocos servicios para los que perdieron a sus padres. Casi tres cuartas partes de los niños iraquíes sufren de síntomas relacionados con trastorno de estrés postraumático, la violencia es tan común allí que la mayoría llega a pensar que es normal.

There are no accurate official statistics on the number of widows in Iraq but government bodies, and international and local NGOs agree that their number has risen since the US-led invasion in 2003.
On 25 March the Iraqi Planning Ministry put their number at about 900,000. Iraq’s population is about 30 million.
Other estimates put the number of Iraqi widows at more than one million nationwide.
