President Trump has rolled back environmental regulations, pulled the United States out of the Paris climate accord, brushed aside dire predictions about the effects of climate change, and turned the term “global warming” into a punch line rather than a prognosis.
Now, after two years spent unraveling the policies of his predecessors, Mr. Trump and his political appointees are launching a new assault.
The strong showing of green parties in the European election has raised hopes among some voters that global warming and other environmental issues will be given more serious consideration across the continent.
Provisional results on Monday showed the left-leaning Greens coming in fourth in the balloting with 69 seats, an increase of 17 from the last election five years ago.
The results also showed how environmental concerns can transcend the political issues that dominate most European Union elections.

Earlier this month, we wrote about Huawei users not being unable to access the page for generating bootloader unlock codes. The page was removed with no explanation, but they were at least still taking requests in a Google Doc and giving out bootloader unlock codes. Today, the news is much grimmer. With manufacturing halted at the ZTE plant in Shenzhen, factory workers have been getting called in for training sessions every other day or so — a snooze, they say. The rest of the time, they loaf around in nearby dorms. Trading in the company’s shares has been suspended for weeks.
There’s a piquant contrast in the press coverage across the decades of Billy Graham’s various private dealings with Richard Nixon, as displayed on the tapes gradually released from the National Archive or disclosed from Nixon’s papers. We’ll come shortly to the flap over Graham and Nixon’s closet palaverings about the Jews, but first let’s visit another interaction between the evangelist and his commander-in-chief. Back in April, 1989, a Graham memo to Nixon was made public. It took the form of a letter from Graham, dated April 15, 1969...
Cats are the most popular pet in Switzerland. Since the majority of Swiss residents live in rented apartments, indoor cats are common. Veterinary practices in the country told newspaper Blick that between 20 and 40 percent of the pets they see are too fat, with cats particularly affected. The reason? Overfeeding and lack of exercise, veterinarians told the paper. “Indoor cats often lack the incentive to move and start to eat out of boredom,” vet Martina Schybli told the paper.
