El su obra "París en el siglo XX" Julio Verne habla de lo que él llama "telegrafía fotográfica", diciendo que "fue inventada en el siglo anterior por el profesor Giovanni Caselli". Evidentemente, con lo de "siglo anterior" se refiere al siglo XIX, por lo que es probable que él mismo conociera realmente el aparato conocido como "Pantelégrafo de Caselli"

Por lo visto, el invento estuvo funcionando realmente durante algunos años, pero dejó de usarse. En el enlace de la noticia explica detalladamente su funcionamiento (usaba líneas de telégrafo en vez de telefónicas).
