Al menos si nos atenemos a lo que dice la Wikipedia en su entrada "Inteligibilidad mutua", que es uno de los criterios usados por lingüistas para distinguir idiomas: es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inteligibilidad_mutua
En él pone al castellano y al portugués como ejemplo de caso asimétrico: "un hablante del portugués estándar europeo entiende perfectamente el castellano, sin embargo para un castellanohablante es casi totalmente ininteligible el portugués por las enormes diferencias fonéticas y fonológicas respecto al español."
