Imagine being almost 10,000 years old. That's how old a tree in the Dalarna province of Sweden has just been calculated to be, making it the oldest living tree - and quite possibly the oldest organism of any kind - in the world.
It's smashed the record previously held by The Old Man, an ancient bristlecone pine in the white mountains of California, which is only half the age. Using carbon dating, scientists put the Dalarna spruce at 9,555 years old. It might not be much to look at, but if you were this old then nor would you be.
